Wood Trim and Various Matters
So, very exciting news! We have a move in date. (pretty much) The weekend of March 15th! In the meantime we have a TON of work to get done.
I don't know if you all remember that large pile of reclaimed beams that we had, well they have been put to use. They are the inside trim of our house. It took quite a while however to get it all ready to go.
I think he played with it a bit to much.
Then he took it over to a portable mill that was down the road a bit.
Then the miller and Curt went to town cutting them all up into boards that we could use. This is really old wood from a building that burned down several years ago that Curt was able to scavenge part of the sub-floor from. So the beams were about 100 years old or more. Clear virgin fir. It makes for some really pretty trim that we could otherwise not have afforded to put into the house.
By the time they were done, we ended up with a small truckload of wood! But then it had to be planed and sanded and finished....UGH.
Curt ended up spending 3-4 weekends just sanding and cutting wood. It took FOREVER!
My job was fairly easy, I just had to put about 3 - 4 coats of finish on all of it. You can see how it makes it look very nice though.
We had a couple pieces where the knots had fallen out, but Curt found some filler wood for it. :)
It really does look very nice and makes it look like it's finished inside finally.
You can also see that the cabinets have started to go in. They are not quite done yet, but I'll have a post soon with the finishes of that.
Curt also had to spend a few days grinding the hearth of the fire place. We had the mason but the wrong finish on it.
I do however, really like the improvised apron Curt came up with to keep from getting soaked!
Both of the showers are now tiled!
Master Bath -
And the guest bath. Which is really hard to get a picture of since there aren't any lights in there yet. I'll get a better one later.
So, as you can see, it really is moving fast now! And since we do actually have a deadline now, we will be in next month!!
YAY!
